CHURNING THE SILT: INTERSECTIONS OF INDIGENOUS AND CONTEMPORARY ART
Jose R. Taton, Jr. is an ethnomusicologist, music educator, and Assistant Professor at the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo. He finished his Master of Arts, major in Ethnomusicology at Philippine Women’s University where he is currently pursuing doctoral studies in music, majoring in Ethnomusicology. His research interests include organology, festival studies, ethnochoreology, music education, and indigenous people’s education. He is a member of the soon-to-be implemented Culture Mapping Project for Panay and Guimaras. As a researcher, he had conducted several study projects among the Ati and Panay Bukidnon of Panay. At present, he is undertaking research on the vocal music genres and instruments of the Panay Bukidon in Central Panay and the music-dance practices among the Panay Bukidnon people living in southern Panay Island, Western Visayas, Philippines.
