Lorebert “Maralita” Comision
Lorebert's canvases depict the struggles of the working class- factory workers, laborers, and farmers.
Lorebert identifies himself with the Maralita, the poor and meek. His canvases depict the struggles of the working class- factory workers, laborers, and farmers.
A deep faith in the interwovenness of things and the search for a sense of wholeness drives his creative process. These linked narratives are expressed through his double exposed videos and photos; and deconstructed paintings whose canvases are pierced, woven and incorporated with found objects.
Maralita is a multimedia artist, having studied Fine Arts at the Adventist University of the Philippines in Cavite. In 2020, upon pausing his studies due to pandemic related difficulties, Maralita was granted an apprenticeship at the Linangan Artists Residency.
He is an active volunteer in independent advocacies and was recently part of the Art Tugon outreach to the Taal evacuees in Brgy. Tumaway, Talisay, Batangas.
He has won numerous awards in various media categories including the Vision the Vision Petron Art Competition and the National Shell Art Competition, and has been exhibiting his works since 2016 (source).
