Rey Aurelio was born in 1974 and studied painting at the Philippine Womens University. After receiving his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2000, Aurelio began his career as a painter by regularly joining group shows in Metro Manila. He caught what he considers his “big break” at the 2013 and 2014 editions of Art Fair Philippines, which led to his first big solo, Silent Mode, at the Paseo Gallery in SM Megamall.
Since then, he has also reaped multiple awards and had five solo exhibitions in Manila including during the ArtFair Philippines 2018. Working with both oils and acrylics, Aurelio is known for photorealistic renderings of the human body, often dramatically lit against dark backgrounds. Aurelio is handled by Paseo Gallery.
