Skylab Collective
PANAY ISLAND,
PHARTIST INFO
Skylab is a collective of multi-disciplinary and inter-generational artists based in Panay island. It
was founded in 2018 with a different set of collaborators who participated in VIVA ExCon Capiz
2018.
Adapting a reconfigurable membership, Skylab is currently composed of Mark Vincent Omega, Kalayn Calves, Santiago Alavarez and Giah De los Reyes for VIVA ExCon Antique 2023. As a portmanteau for “laboratory in the sky,” it aims to study visual and material culture in rural areas, explore its intersections towards a wider contemporary context and the ever-changing landscapes in the region.
Current Members
MARK OMEGA
Mark Omega (b. 1986) is an experimental sound artist with a project-based methodology. He explores a variety of sonic landscapes through field recordings, encompassing noise, free improvisation, dark industrial, drone, minimal, and environmental-ambient music. These experiences have enabled him to develop his unique sound, synthesizing influences from various musical genres and styles. He has taken his sound to free open spaces and residencies, allowing him to reach a diverse audience.
GIAH DE LOS REYES
Giah De los Reyes’ (b. 2002) practice embraces social studies, human interaction and material research––bringing her art out of the confines of the regular studio to open communal possibilities. An awareness of “relational aesthetics” currently puts her on a trajectory leading to her own unique language. In 2021, Giah started a passion project “Katawhayan”, and is currently the program manager of Green Papaya Art Projects and research project assistant for Super Inday Art.
DANYLEY KLIENE CALVEZ
Danyley Kliene Calvez (b. 1994) handles 3DVSN. His work revolves around sticker-slapping, screenprinting, wheatpaste, wall-painting, and hand-poke as a way to express himself in a system masked by illusions, conditionalizing advertisements, and sugar-coated phrases. He is inspired by the fast pace of everyday life, mixed with the island’s rich history and culture. He uses color, movement, and texture which bring his works to life from the everyday hustle and bustle of the tropical island, immortalizing the spirit and energy of Roxas City and its people.
